To maintain a professional web presence, you will need to subscribe to one of the plans available so that you can use your domain name.

Whilst most, if not all of the website platforms available today include a free domain name registration, it will make your life easier in the future to register the domain name yourself so that you maintain control and ownership.

The Australian Government Website has a great article about how to register a website name for your business.

The downside to registering your domain with one of these platforms, that if you choose to move away from the platform in the future, you will have to go through a process of transferring the domain name to another Registrar, which can cause delays when you are trying to launch a new website.

It is also important to note that these website builder platforms will suit your current website requirements, in the future when your business has grown and you need your website to grow with the business, you may need to consider a self hosted option.

Because the site builder platforms use their own proprietary platform, it’s not possible to transfer your website to another solution. The only thing that you can take with you is your website content. So be sure to plan ahead when you are considering moving your website. And because you had registered your domain name with an alternate Registrar, it will be a smoother transfer to your new website when it is ready to launch.

If you have a new business and are looking for somewhere to start when it comes to websites, social media and an online presence, take a look at this article on the Australian Government website.

So if your website budget is tight and you need to get a website launched for your business, consider one of the website builder platforms to get you started.
